What if the RVS cannot connect to the camera?

Solution

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Check that the camera is powered on

Cameras can only be connected after initialization is complete.

  • Normal initialization process of USB camera: When the USB camera is just powered on, the Power light on the body flashes quickly, and flashes at the frequency of 1HZ after initialization is completed. It takes about 10s until the whole process is finished.

  • Normal initialization process of common network cameras: Common network cameras have three indicators, respectively, Power, Ethernet and Act lights. After the initialization is complete, the Power indicator blinks at 1HZ, the Ethernet indicator is on (indicating that the camera is a Gigabit network), and the Act indicator blinks when data is being transmitted.

Step 2: Check whether the hardware connection of the camera is loose

Check whether the hardware connection of the camera is loose, including whether the network cable is Gigabit Ethernet, and whether the network port is securely connected. For example, for the FS820-E1 camera, use a self-locking network jack to ensure a stable connection.

Step 3: Check whether the network is faulty

To enable the command line, and try to through the ping command to check whether can communicate with the camera. If the camera cannot be pinged, check that the IP Settings are correct and that you can communicate with the camera.

Step 4: Check whether the switch is faulty

If you use a switch, check whether it is due to a switch problem. You can use a network cable to directly connect the PC for troubleshooting.

Step 5: Use Percipio Viewer to check if you can successfully connect the camera

You can try to connect the camera using Percipio Viewer to check that the connection is working. You can download Percipio Viewer from Percipio website. If the Percipio Viewer is unable to connect to the camera, please contact Percipio’s FAE for support.

If Percipio Viewer is able to successfully connect to the camera, but RVS cannot connect to the camera, contact the Percipio RVS development team for further support.
