Identify GenICam and Non-GenICam Cameras

Overview

GenICam (Generic Interface for Camera Access) is a machine-vision industry standard defined by EMVA. It provides a unified programming interface for controlling machine-vision cameras.

For cameras compliant with the GenICam standard, users can connect to and control the device directly with GenICam-compatible machine-vision software without camera-specific customization. For more details, see the GenICam website.

How to Identify

Because GenICam and non-GenICam cameras differ slightly in some APIs and feature settings, confirm the camera type before use:

Navigate to the SDK directory lib/win/hostapp/x64, open a terminal, and run ListDevices.exe to obtain the camera’s TL version information.

  • TL version = Gige_2_1: The connected camera is a GenICam camera.

  • TL version = Gige_2_0: The connected camera is a non-GenICam camera.
